explore our Christian-based principles on parenting

Get to know us by reading about our core beliefs and values

The parenting sphere is alive with terminology for the best ways to parent: positive parenting, attachment parenting, sensory smart parenting, intentional parenting, supportive parenting, authoritative parenting and facilitative parenting, to name a handful.

How is a parent to find their way through this parenting jungle with any kind of certainty about how they should parent?

Hettie Brittz shares the seven TRUTHS that form the outline of Evergreen’s Christian parenting principles in this video:

Want to explore our principles and upskill your parenting? You have a decision to make…

Would you prefer to journey with a facilitator, or would you like to tackle this do-it-yourself style?

Grow more and more confident in your parenting role as you learn to apply these timeless principles:

There are no shortcuts

Evergreen parents understand that parenting is a discipleship process to guide children to maturity. The fruit might not be visible immediately because character takes time to develop and grow. There are no shortcuts to maturity.

We are all UNIQUE

Evergreen parents take the temperament of each member of the family into account. We believe that the temperament of the parents and the children are important and are God-given designs. We are all unique and there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.

Mutual respect

Evergreen parents understand that the parent-child relationship is built on trust and respect. We believe parents have God-given authority over their children but the responsibility to remain healthy authority figures throughout the childhood phases into adulthood.

Perspective

Evergreen parenting requires an understanding of the bigger picture. We need to identify the unique moments of parenthood and then choose the appropriate action.

There are seasons in parenting

Evergreen parents believe that our children go through different seasons of development and that we can, and should, adapt our parenting styles accordingly.

Discipline with compassion

Evergreen discipline is based on Hebrews 12:11-13, which states that appropriate discipline feels like it’s going against the grain at the time, but later yields the fruit. Compassionate discipline forms character.

We can’t do it on our own

The Lord Himself will fill us with His wisdom and love. He will forgive, heal and teach us so that we may have goals for parenthood that reveal His love and His heart.

COURSES

BY HETTIE BRITTZ

Hettie Brittz compiled courses, based on the content of the books she authored, to guide people to apply the principles. She also trained Facilitators to present these courses. There are courses for parents and educators.

Our story

It all started with a best-selling book on Christian parenting: ‘Kweek Kinders met Karakter‘ by Hettie Brittz. She later published the English version: ‘Growing Kids with Character’ and two more titles followed: ‘Respectable Parents, Respectful Kids’ and ‘Compassionate Discipline.’ (Unfortunately, you won’t find these books on this website, we exist as an alternative to get the same information to parents as most titles are unfortunately not in print anymore.)

We know everybody can’t read these books… some might struggle to find a copy, some don’t like reading because they process info differently (we understand different personality types) and most parents do not have the time to read. Whatever your reason, we have you covered: The content from these books was converted to videos, audio files, practical exercises, and handy tools to enable more parents to access life-changing information and advice – right at your fingertips!
