Where to anchor your AUTHORITY

by Hettie Brittz

As parents we can easily feel as though we do not have any authority over our children. These feelings are usually the result of disciplinary moments with undesired outcomes … Someone shouted or got hurt unnecessarily … Someone did not react in the appropriate manner or turned a deaf ear …

These moments do not make or break, or even determine, our authority. Our authority comes, above all else, from the Lord. He deems you worthy to be His PLAN-A parent for your child! Perhaps you feel that you and your child are an impossible combination, when you are in fact a planned and perfectly designed combination! There will be times when your relationship with your child will bring your weaknesses to the surface, during these times you can always turn to God for His help and wisdom!

During this process it is helpful to remember that we need to grow as much as our child does. As your child learns to accept your authority, you and I can also practise bending under the Lord’s direction and authority. It is actually the foundation of our authority! Everyone who wishes to exert true authority needs to be personally versed in obedience.

Would you like to receive more authority today? Bind yourself anew to Godly authority by bowing humbly beneath the Lord’s holy hand. And remember His promise to give wisdom generously to us who lack it – without reproach!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

James 1:5, NIV
